SMALL PRINT by Deirdre Baker

…Lanthier employs many conventional mystery moves – a father who suddenly vanishes; "a heavy-set man with a large bulbous nose and bald head" who is up to no good; an anagram; an art theft; a family secret ...

Through it all, Hazel Frump and her brainy brother Ned act out a good readable story. Lanthier provides a strong sense of place (Hazel and Ned end up at the family home on one of the Thousand Islands) plus home-built stink bombs, French food and a day spent swimming in the St. Lawrence. A nice alternative to Nancy Drew.
